Patron

What is a Patron and why do I need to sign up to the portal?

What is Patron?

In a nutshell, Patron is a Mead provider. To get Mead to play the game, you need a patron to support you. Getting a patron won't cost you, at least for now, as Planetarium serves as your patron to play Nine Chronicles.

However, Planetarium is the only patron at the moment, meaning in order to earn Mead, you must be registered (signup) at the Nine Chronicles Portal. This may seem a little unconventional given that Planetarium and Nine Chronicles pursue creating a decentralized game. The method of generating Mead is still being considered, including the patron system itself. The patron system is a core component of the Mead system, and following updates will provide detailed guides on how one can become a patron and who will be qualified for the role. In the near future, there may be multiple Mead providers in various forms.

πŸ›‘οΈ Planetarium’s approach to Abusers (a.k.a Bots)

It has come to our attention that players or automated systems are engaging in excessive transaction spam, which disrupts the harmony of Nine Chronicles. Our team has implemented various measures to address this issue, such as limiting the number of transactions created per hour and implementing IP address bans. We maintain constant surveillance over Nine Chronicles to protect it from potential harm.

In our ongoing efforts, we recognize the importance of disabling the potential benefits of a β€œmulti-account” approach rather than solely focusing on it (just to clarify, multi-accounting is still not allowed). The existence of a centralized entity with the power to impose bans implies that any account, including yours, could be controlled by such an entity. Moreover, we consider the ability to exploit protocol-level benefits as a vulnerability that requires fundamental improvements at the protocol level rather than reactive measures against individual cases of abuse.

🍯 Okay, then, What is Mead?

To pursue the aforementioned goals, we will be introducing network fees. However, we are committed to ensuring that these fees do not hinder players from enjoying a β€œfree-to-play” experience. This is where β€œMead” comes into play, as a dedicated currency specifically for fees.

The exact method of generating Mead is still under consideration, with Validator rewards being one potential source, but precise plans have not been finalized. During the initial implementation phase, the portal will temporarily serve as the supplier of Mead required for the game. As we progress, alternative methods to generate Mead will be introduced by the end of the year. Consequently, all users will be required to join the portal temporarily. However, for users who pose significant harm to the network, restrictions on the supply of Mead may be imposed to limit their network usage.
